[ARCHIVED] Patrol and Investigations Arrest Man Wanted After Assault

Lester

Patrol and Investigations worked successfully to bring a suspect in on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, two counts of Menacing, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, after an incident on May 8, in which a 29-year-old man and 35-year-old woman were menaced with a firearm, and the man was assaulted with it.

On May 8 at 8:25 a.m., the two victims and another woman, age 33, were in an apartment in the 2100 block of Franklin Boulevard. The woman left the apartment after an argument and returned through an open door along with her husband, Carvey Lewis Lester Jr., age 43 of Springfield. Lester is reported to have pointed a handgun towards the female victim and then hit the male victim in the head with it several times. The female victim ran and hid. Officers began to arrive after 911 calls were made regarding a man in the complex with a gun. Officers were unable to locate Lester at the time.

At 12:40 p.m. on May 11, Patrol units assisted detectives with follow-up regarding this incident and they took Lester into custody at Day Island Park in Springfield as he was attempting to purchase a firearm. Lester was transported to the Lane County Jail.

Today, May 14, the primary investigating officer located the involved firearm. Case 1807460
