[ARCHIVED] Downtown Riverfront Public Events Begin Friday

Eugene’s Downtown Riverfront could undergo a major transformation, fulfilling the community’s long-held goal of turning a vacant, inaccessible, and empty riverfront lot into a vibrant, active, and accessible riverfront neighborhood and community destination. The redevelopment of the Downtown Riverfront has been a part of the community’s vision for decades, reinforced through numerous public engagement opportunities over several years.

At their meeting on Tuesday evening, the City Council (acting as the Urban Renewal Agency) heard an update on the proposed terms of an agreement with Williams/Dame & Associates that would set the stage for the future redevelopment of the site. In partnership with Williams/Dame & Associates, the City will host several events throughout June to inform community members on the current proposal for the redevelopment of Eugene’s riverfront. In addition, the Council will hold a public hearing before it makes a decision on the proposed terms of the agreement.

Events

  • Friday, June 1, 4-7 p.m.
James Atkins of Williams/Dame and city staff will be available to share information and images of the concept plan for the Downtown Riverfront site at Broadway and Willamette during the First Friday Art Walk. Community members can hear from Williams/Dame about the proposal that would connect downtown to the river and see renderings of what the site may look like.
  • Wednesday, June 20, 4-7 p.m.
Williams/Dame will share information on the proposed project at an Open House at EWEB North Headquarters Community Room. City staff will also be available to share information on other aspects of the redevelopment including proposed city investments, affordable housing, transportation, the Riverfront Park, and the Steam Plant.
  • Monday, June 25, 7:30 p.m.
A Public Hearing at Harris Hall will provide an opportunity for Council (acting as the Urban Renewal Agency) to hear from community members on the proposal.
