Eugene Police officers arrested a man identified as Robert Charles Haywood, Jr., age 38, on June 27 at 12:50 a.m., and are seeking further information from the public to identify other possible victims. Haywood may not be his true name, as he has other aliases.
Eugene Police responded just before midnight on June 26 to an apartment building near West 11th and Willamette Street after a report that woman woke up to find a man turning on her bedroom light. He then left her apartment. Haywood was located by EPD patrol officers outside the apartment building. During a records check patrol officers discovered Haywood was wanted from Multomonah County for Criminal Trespass. During his arrest, evidence of multiple identiy thefts and a large sum of cash were found. Haywood was lodged at the Lane County Jail on numerous stolen credit card crimes, fraudulent documents, providing false information to a police officer and the Multomonah County warrant.
After an fingerprint check, Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered Haywood was wanted from California for a Parole violation under another name. Haywood has an extensive criminal records from numerous states for crimes simliar to burglary and theft. Haywood also was in possession of a fake California ID card in the name of “Omar Jets.”
Eugene Police detectives have conducted hours of follow up and have found numerous victims of burglary, theft and identity theft. Detectives are asking for the public’s help locating any other possible victims. If anyone has encoutered Haywood in their apartment building, retirement home or residence, detectives would like them to contact Eugene Police. Haywood’s method of stealing personal items appears to be entering unlocked doors or windows and sneaking out. Most of his crimes appear to be when people are sleeping.
Detectives are attemtping to locate any victims who have had their credit card used for a large cash advance in the last few weeks. It appears that Haywood has frequented the downtown and West Eugene area. Detectives are asking if you live in the downtown area to check if you are missing your credit cards and check your card statements for suspicious activity. It’s believed that Haywood has been in the Eugene area since early June 2018.
