[ARCHIVED] City Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Budget

On Monday, June 18, the Eugene City Council held a public hearing and unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2018-2019 (FY19) budget for the City of Eugene.

The City Manager’s Proposed Budget, presented in May, included targeted, one-time funding strategies for several initiatives, with an emphasis on Community Justice, Public Safety and Planning efforts. The Eugene Budget Committee reviewed and deliberated on the City Manager's Proposed budget during four meetings throughout May.

After receiving public input, the Budget Committee voted to recommend adoption of the FY19 Proposed Budget with the following additions:

  • $500,000 in one-time funding for Community Justice initiatives, including support for the 911 Communications Center
  • $100,000 in one-time funding to extend the downtown operations program through spring 2019
  • $75,000 in one-time funding for downtown guides and/or security
  • $60,000 in one-time funding to support the expanded car camping program
  • $200,823 in one-time funding for Dusk to Dawn program operations, including the addition of a housing navigator to assist participants with accessing permanent housing

Additionally, Eugene voters passed two parks-related ballot measures in May, a five-year parks and recreation operations and maintenance local option levy in the amount of $3,150,000 per year, and $39.35 million in general obligation bonds to fund parks and recreation facility projects. These ballot measures were incorporated into the Budget Committee's Recommended Budget. City Council made no changes to the FY19 Recommended Budget.

The new budget went into effect on July 1, 2018, and the Eugene Open Budget website will be updated with the FY19 Adopted Budget and Capital Budget data in July.

See the Proposed Budget and other agenda materials. The adopted budget will also be posted here later in the summer when the document is finalized.

City Council also held a public hearing and adopted the third supplemental budget for FY18. See the Agenda Item Summary for the FY18 Third Supplemental Budget.
