Eugene Police’s Property Crimes Unit and Patrol’s Downtown Team conducted a short operation in support of the downtown initiative Thursday evening. As part of that operation, the bait bike was deployed for a short period of time and netted two captures when suspects hit on the bike and a third arrest of one of the suspect’s associates.
Jeremy Lee Linville, age 42, who has a history of property crime offenses and was recently released from prison, was arrested July 5 at 11:20 p.m. after taking the bait bike from the bike rack at the library and charged with Theft in the Second Degree. James Huston Mattiazzi, age 27, was with Linville when Linville stole the bike. A Property Crimes Unit detective had an active identity theft case involving Mattiazzi, and this contact resulted in further investigation. Mattiazzi was charged with two counts of ID Theft.
Cody Anthony Bryan, age 22, of Eugene, was arrested on July 5, at 10 p.m., after taking the bait bike from the area of Charnelton and West 7th Alley. He was charged with Theft in the Second Degree.
As part of the downtown initiative, the department has been proactively conducting operations in the downtown area and will continue to do so throughout the summer.
