[ARCHIVED] Lane County Grand Jury Indictment

On July 16, 2018, a Lane County Grand Jury indicted Sean Thomas Jones, age 42, of Springfield, on the following charges:

Aggravated Theft in the First Degree – three counts

Theft in the First Degree – two counts

Forgery in the First Degree – four counts

Computer Crime – three counts

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Eugene Police Department in cooperation with officials from the O’Hara Catholic School and the Open Door Foundation. The investigation revealed that Jones, while working as the Advancement Director for the O’Hara Catholic School, embezzled approximately $3,900 from the school. Additionally, while on the Board of Directors for the Open Door Foundation, he embezzled approximately $50,800 from the foundation. It is believed that he used his position to forge documents and fraudulently obtain access to financial accounts in order to divert funds for his personal use during a three year period.

The Open Door Foundation is a privately funded organization that provides scholarships to families to make it possible for them to afford to send their children to O’Hara Catholic School. School and Foundation officials fully cooperated with the investigation and have taken steps to prevent similar theft in the future.
