Neighborhood falls victim to car clouter – can you I.D. this suspect?

Case 18-14458

On September 3 at 12:56 a.m., a man called 911 to report his Chevy Tahoe was entered and ransacked in the 2800 block of Dry Creek Road. There were at least five or six other incidents that happened in the same neighborhood that police have counted thus far. A responding officer found multiple vehicles opened and gone through, with property scattered down the streets near Dry Creek Road and Arrowhead Street.

Due to the large scale spree in the neighborhood (Dry Creek Road/Arrowhead), EPD is asking for anyone else who has been victimized to call and make a report. Also, there was some recovered stolen property and the investigating officer is providing a work cell for anyone wishing to make a report or check into recovering any property found: Officer Trevor Hart, 541-654-1242 or e-mail Trevor.T.Hart@ci.eugene.or.us

The officer is providing these photos of the suspect and the pink purse she left in one of the vehicles (possibly not her purse).

The suspect is described as a white female, in her early to mid-thirties, with maroon or dark auburn hair that is shoulder length (in a ponytail in the surveillance photo). She is pictured wearing a sage-green t-shirt with a large circular sun design on the front, purple yoga-style pants, and carrying a small backpack-type purse.

GENERAL THEFT FROM VEHICLE TIPS:

Theft from a vehicle is one of the most common crimes in our area. In almost all cases, the victims had left property visible in the vehicle. There is one clear message, if you want to keep someone from breaking into your vehicle, don't leave anything visible inside the vehicle! If you will follow this one simple rule, you will likely not become a victim of this crime.

  • Be careful when leaving electronics in your vehicle, GPS, Ipod’s, etc. Even just a cord visible, indicates the likelihood such a device is inside. Your safest option is to leave anything you consider valuable at home.

  • Don’t park and then put something in your vehicle’s trunk and then walk away from the vehicle. If someone saw you put it in, they can usually access your trunk by breaking into your vehicle and accessing the trunk release. Instead, put the item in the trunk before arriving at your location. This is especially important at hiking/running locations, sporting events and shopping malls

  • Secure vehicles by rolling up the windows and locking doors (even on a hot day – it is better to take a few minutes to air out a hot car than to discover a theft)
