The City of Eugene has granted Lyft a Public Passenger Vehicle License to operate in Eugene-Springfield. All people interested in driving for a Transportation Network Company (TNC) in Eugene-Springfield must obtain a Driver Certification from the City of Eugene. Interested drivers will need to successfully apply and register with Lyft prior to applying for their City of Eugene Driver Certification.
UBER has also submitted an application for company license and issuance is pending additional information. Upon issuance of license the City will provide an update.
How to Obtain a Driver Certification from the City
Driver Certification applications and instructions are posted online. The cost of the annual certification is $65, paid at the time of application. The City of Eugene began processing certifications on Tuesday, September 4. Below are the special hours for this week. Inquire on the website for hours of driver certification processing after September 7.
To obtain a Driver Certification from the City of Eugene one must be at least 21 years old. An interested person will need to apply and register online with the licensed Transportation Network Company (TNC) of their choice. Once the interested driver is approved by the TNC they will fill out the Public Passenger Vehicle Driver Certification application and come into the Atrium Building (or special location list below). The interested driver will need to bring with them:
- A Valid State-Issued Driver's License
- Completed Application (paper copies will be available on-site)
- Form of Payment (cash, money order, or Visa or MC - $65)
- Completed Vehicle Inspection Form (can be obtained from the TNC)
- Proof of Personal Automobile Insurance
- Proof of vetting by a licensed TNC (will be in the app)
Once the Driver Certification application process has been completed with the City of Eugene, including payment of the fee, the person will be issued a Driver Certification immediately. Drivers will need to then inquire with the TNC for next steps.
