[ARCHIVED] The MovingAhead Project is Moving Ahead with Public Input

With a focus on safety and a better connected city, people in Eugene have a unique opportunity to shape the future along some of the city’s most traveled roads. Over the next few weeks, people will have several chances to learn about the MovingAhead project. The feedback they provide will help shape the final decision – and may improve travel in Eugene.

5 Key Corridors

MovingAhead is an in-depth look at how to improve transportation along five key corridors:

  1. River Road
  2. Highway 99
  3. Coburg Road
  4. MLK, Jr. Boulevard
  5. 30th Avenue to Lane Community College

The project is intended to provide better connectivity across the city, including for people who walk, ride a bike, use a mobility device or take the bus.

Public Comment Opportunities

The first opportunity to weigh in starts today, through the MovingAhead online open house where the community can learn more about MovingAhead and provide feedback on a variety of proposed improvements.

People can also go to one of four open houses over the next month. MovingAhead experts will be available to talk about the project and the proposed changes.

Finally, comments can be accepted online at the MovingAhead website where project materials, such as a detailed look of the options under consideration and a project video, can be viewed.

The public comment period runs from Monday, September 10, 2018 through 5 p.m. on October 10, 2018. A second public comment period will take place later in the fall. All of the feedback will be used to form the MovingAhead final recommendations, which are expected to happen in spring 2019.

About MovingAhead

MovingAhead began in 2015 as a partnership between the City of Eugene, Lane Transit District (LTD), regional agencies, and the Eugene-Springfield community. The purpose of the project is to determine what transportation investments are needed on some of our most important streets.

At the conclusion of the project, the Eugene City Council and LTD Board of Directors will select a package of transit, walking, and biking investments across these five corridors that can be funded and built over the next 10 years. This list of prioritized investments will become a powerful tool for implementing local and regional land use, transportation, and community plans.
