On September 11 at 5:15 p.m., the 35-year-old owner of a stolen vehicle spotted his Toyota 4x4 at 11th Avenue and Lawrence Street and followed it to where it stopped on Lincoln Street between 16th and 17th Avenue. The owner, from Eugene, grabbed a small bat before exiting his vehicle and confronting the suspect, later identified as Jason Scott Page, age 29, of Veneta.
Page exited the vehicle and the two engaged in a verbal dispute. Page then jumped back into his truck and put it into reverse, striking a parked Toyota Camry and dragging the victim along with him. The motion threw the victim off the truck and underneath the Camry, and he rolled out from below the parked car with minor injuries. Page fled west on 17th Avenue, driving recklessly until he crashed in the backyard of 1998 Broadview and fled on foot.
One of our officers was mobile in the area and located Page in the area of Oak Patch Road and the bike path. When the officer confronted Page, Page shoved his hands into his pocket and claimed to have a firearm, challenging the officer to shoot him before fleeing a short distance. The officer gave a taser admonishment and Page turned around, puts his hands in the air and surrendered. Additional officers arrived and took Page into custody on the following charges:
Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
Two counts of Hit and Run
Criminal Mischief 2
Interfering With a Police Officer
