The second and final Eugene Sunday Streets of 2018 is about to take center stage. On Sunday, September 23, folks will fill the streets in parts of the Churchill Neighborhood as people learn about active transportation options and healthy lifestyles.
The two mile car-free route will connect activity centers at McCornack Elementary School, Acorn Park and West 11th in the Bike Friday parking lot. The event runs from noon until 4 p.m. and is the first time it’s stopped in west Eugene.
So what’s different about this event? The City chose this neighborhood because of its active transportation options such as the new West EmX corridor and the Fern Ridge Path – both an option on Sunday. People can use a free Eugene Sunday Streets bus pass on EmX to get to west Eugene, then jump on a PeaceHealth Rides bike to enjoy the route.
There will be plenty of traditional Sunday Streets attractions. Music will be rocking from three music stages and along the Fern Ridge Path. People can get a free bike tune up at Acorn Park or a free helmet from PeaceHealth at the McCornack Elementary School Activity Center. Also, world champion BMX pro Dave Nourie will perform at the Bike Friday Activity Center off West 11th Avenue.
This event follows the historic Sunday Streets from earlier this summer. More than 12,000 people took part in the July event – either as part of Sunday Streets or the EUG Parade – which makes it the largest Eugene Sunday Streets in program history.
