[ARCHIVED] Hold onto those leaves

Despite the cooler temperatures and changing seasons, we’re still a few weeks away from Eugene’s leaf collection and delivery service. People are asked to hold onto those leaves or utilize their yard debris bin until crews are scheduled to be in their area.

“There are still too many leaves on the trees right now for us to make the conversion to leaf season,” said Damon Joyner, Surface Maintenance Supervisor. “We’re still taking advantage of any dry weather and wrapping up our summer projects which includes asphalt and concrete street repairs.”

Eugene’s leaf collection and delivery service will start in mid-November. For safety reasons, people should never put their leaves in the street until the weekend before crews are scheduled to come to their neighborhood.

Piling leaves in the street too early can lead to localized flooding, pollute waterways if leaf debris washes down storm drains and create hazards for people who drive, bike or walk. Property owners are liable for injuries or damages cause by negligent placement of leaves or other debris in the street.
