When The Votes Are All In, RECYCLE Your Signs! Election signs cannot be put in curbside commingled recycling. Lane County Public Works Waste Management Division will be collecting and recycling political campaign signs at no cost to the public through the election season. For a five week period, beginning November 1st and ending December 8th, political campaign signs will be accepted at the Glenwood Central Receiving Station.
This recycling collection will be for plastic sign boards that are free of staples, tape, and metal or wood posts. They will accept the newer sign systems that use a plastic film sleeve or paper pouch over a wire rack. The plastic signs will be recycled through a local company that recycles a wide variety of plastics that are not recyclable through the standard curbside or transfer station programs. The paper will be recycled with low grade paper.
The Glenwood Central Receiving Station, located at 3100 E. 17th Ave. in Glenwood area, is the only transfer station available for this recycling option.
"We have collected campaign signs following elections for several years now and are delighted to report fewer and fewer are being discarded,” says Sarah Grimm, Lane County Waste Reduction Specialist. “Folks are reusing them for projects and a few local campaign offices are even collecting them from supporters to reuse for future campaigns.” Lane County Waste Management Division applauds this form of resource efficiency and, when it is time, provides the opportunity to recycle this material.
