At
5:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, and after two days of searching and
interagency efforts, Jason Dean Brooks, age 35, of Eugene, was taken into
custody with the aid of Eugene Police SWAT for an August 2018 Burglary case.
EPD Property/Financial
Crime detectives,
FBI, EPD Patrol and EPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team assisted with watching and safely taking Brooks into
custody at the Eugene Hilton on the 9th floor.
The
arrest came after months of investigation and hard work. Tuesday’s arrest was
precipitated by a traffic stop in Newport, Oregon, over the weekend. An Oregon
State Police trooper had pulled over a vehicle Brooks was in and he fled from
it. That kicked off follow-up on leads and surveillance
efforts on the coast and in the Eugene area. During this effort, detectives
contacted local hotels and found Brooks was at the Eugene Hilton. When Brooks
was contacted, he tried to flee out of the room and fire escape, but was
quickly and safely taken into custody by EPD SWAT. Less Lethal options were
used during the arrest.
Brooks
was charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Aggravated Theft in the First
Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Anthony
McThrow, another suspect in the Burglary case, was arrested September
12 and charged with Burglary in the First Degree and Aggravated
Theft in the First Degree.
