Mayor Lucy Vinis named Hummingbird Wholesale the 2019 Bold Steps Award winner at the Jan. 3 State of the City event.
Since 2014 the City has presented the Bold Steps Award to a Eugene-based business that operates with a triple bottom line approach focusing on people, planet, and prosperity – those who measure success based on how they support their employees and their commitment to environmental stewardship, in addition to their economic prosperity.
Hummingbird Wholesale is an organic food distribution company known for developing partnerships with farmers, processors and retail markets to develop vertically integrated supply chains, and for being thought-leaders in the food industry. In addition to providing a wide array of organic foods for purchase, Hummingbird Wholesale recently constructed the Mahonia Building, a mixed use project that is the largest straw bale commercial building in Oregon, created with earth plaster made from clay and soil from the building site and incorporating reused materials throughout.
