To help implement Eugene’s vision for an updated Franklin Boulevard, the City of Eugene will next week ask for the community’s input. The City will hold an intense, multi-day design workshop, with three opportunities for the public to weigh in.
Community Feedback Opportunities
- Monday, January 28 from 6-7:30 p.m.: Design Discovery Workshop Kickoff Meeting
Ford Alumni Center, 1720 East 13th Avenue
This event will orient attendees to the project and planning process, and to what the Franklin Boulevard Transformation project aims to accomplish. The City will ask for feedback about what currently works well and what doesn’t on Franklin, and what Eugeneans’ desires are for the street.
*This meeting will be recorded and live streamed on the The UO Channel and Facebook Live @eugenetransportation. City staff will be managing the Facebook Live stream during the meeting to answer questions and enable you to participate in the small group discussion via Facebook comments.
- Tuesday, January 29 from 4-7 p.m.: Open Studio Hours
Romania Building, Franklin Boulevard
The community is invited to stop by to see how the design work is progressing. This open studio will allow Eugeneans to see designers at work and peek at initial ideas for corridor transformation.
- Thursday, January 31 from 6-7:30 p.m.: Design Discovery Workshop Reveal
Jaqua Center, 1615 East 13th Avenue
This event will showcase the week’s work toward a concept design for transforming Franklin Boulevard. The City will present possible street cross sections and intersection designs along with information about how people traveling by different modes using the corridor could be affected by the design options. Designs will not be final at this meeting and will be further refined in the coming months.
City of Eugene Recreation staff will provide free child care at the Monday and Thursday evening meetings. Appetizers will be available at all of the meetings.
“More than 31,000 vehicles use the corridor every day and so far only 20 people say they’ll be at the workshops,” said Larisa Varela, Project Manager. “Franklin is a major street and impacts nearly everyone – residents and visitors alike. We need people to show up and share what they want to see on a new Franklin.”
The planning project began this month and is anticipated to last approximately one year, concluding in late 2019.
