[ARCHIVED] Recommendations for Cloth Face Coverings

Reserve N-95 Masks for Healthcare Workers and First Responders

Healthcare providers across the region and country are still in critical need of medical grade N95 masks. The City of Eugene continues to request that the public reserve N-95 masks for healthcare workers and first responders. Individuals or businesses that have access to new N95 masks or other PPE can donate them to Lane County. New PPE is being collected Monday-Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lane County’s warehouse (3050 N. Delta Highway, Eugene, OR 97408).

See Lane County’s website for more information.

New CDC Guidelines

New CDC guidelines recommend all people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain such as grocery stores and pharmacies. Because many carriers of COVID-19 are asymptomatic, it is advised to wear a mask in public places even if you are not currently feeling symptoms.

Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be utilized. When a homemade mask can’t be acquired a scarf or bandana can be utilized.

It is important to remember that any mask is only as good as the basic hygienic practices that go with its use. Always wash your hands before and after putting on a mask. Masks should fit snugly around the mouth and nose. Avoid touching the mask or your face while it is on. Wash masks after each use.
