The Best Things We've Seen This Week - Vol. 11

week 11 360x280

Welcome to The Best Things We’ve Seen This Week – Vol. 11! Things are slowly starting to feel more like summer around Eugene Rec.

We are excited to announce summer camp registration opens at 9 a.m. June 8, and camps will begin June 22. Along with the restart of childcare services at Amazon, Petersen Barn and Sheldon community centers, we are thrilled to be able to start taking care of our patrons again.

Recreation staff have been busy over the last two months finding new ways to connect with our community. We’ve made dedicated efforts to call people to check-in, we’ve significantly increased our virtual offerings and many of us were also called in to the City’s emergency operations center to help in the larger pandemic response.

Read our full post about the start of summer camps here and learn all about the new protocols we have in place.

Even as we reopen, it remains important to not forget why we are all home in the first place, so our first link every week is to a resources page on the City of Eugene website where you can find the latest information on what the City is doing, key resources and related information.

And now onto the links. Our first one this week is to a Twitter account all about rating dogs. Because sometimes you just need to spend some time looking at cute pets. And yes, the below good boy is yours truly’s. Is it a shameless use of a cute labradoodle to get clicks? Maybe. Are we ashamed of it? Not in the slightest. 15/10.

Tucker the labradoodle lays out in the sun.

Roundup

  • Our friends at Eugene Parks and Open Space are still out and about, sharing the cool things that we are all lucky enough to see in our parks system, including huge butterflies!
  • The Hult Center for the Performing Arts is still hosting its weekly happy hour series. It’s at 6 p.m. every Thursday and it’s a great way to support local artists.
  • We might see a space launch this weekend if the weather holds. Even all these years later, it’s still really cool to think of a huge rocket sending humans into space.
  • The City has been working closely with its partners to come to agreement on physical distancing protocols. In Germany, one cafe came up with an extremely silly and unique way to keep people apart.

Let’s head into the weekend with a smile

And one more thing...

NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts are well known, but if you’re craving a bit good music to jam out to this weekend, you can literally spend hours with this playlist.

Have a good weekend everyone.
