Things are slowly starting to feel more like summer around Eugene Rec.
We are excited to announce summer camp registration opens at 9 a.m. June 8, and camps will begin June 22. Along with the restart of childcare services at Amazon, Petersen Barn and Sheldon community centers, we are thrilled to be able to start taking care of our patrons again.
Recreation staff have been busy over the last two months finding new ways to connect with our community. We’ve made dedicated efforts to call people to check-in, we’ve significantly increased our virtual offerings and many of us were also called in to the City’s emergency operations center to help in the larger pandemic response.
Through it all, we planned and worked toward the day when we could once again greet people at our centers. Of course, reopening comes with its own set of challenges and new protocols. These new guidelines are something we ask everyone to respect so we can all enjoy these new offerings.
When you log on to our digital registration system to look at our new summer camp offerings, we want you to be assured that every patron who comes to our facilities will be safe. We have planned camp modifications to keep your kids safe, including physical distancing requirements, mask wearing and diligent sanitizing. Because these safety measures will include having smaller groups of campers, we appreciate your understanding that we expect enrollment capacity to be limited.
Another way to keep patrons safe is Eugene Rec’s new requirement that everyone registers for a free participant card before activity registration. This card will be used to track your attendance and activities in Rec programs. In the event that it’s needed, this information will also be used for COVID-19 contact tracing. Register before June 8.
Once you have registered for your free participant card you are ready to register for programs. There are three ways for you to do so: online, over the phone and in person, though that will be limited.
Online
- If you have registered with us before, make sure you have your login information.
- Not sure if you have an account? Visit our online registration and click "Log In/Create Account," then select "Log In with Email" and select "Forgot Password." If you have an account your login information will be emailed to you.

We are also offering additional financial support for families with children affected economically by this pandemic through our COVID Incremental Discount. (Please note this discount can’t be combined with Rec scholarship funds or other discounts.) If you already have a Rec Scholarship you will automatically have a COVID-19 discount on your account, you can use for camp registrations. If your income has changed please apply for our COVID-19 discount. For more information, call 541-682-5654.
If you’re wondering about Eugene Rec’s plan for expanding its offerings to include adults, we are busily preparing for that inevitability. Facility rentals, fitness classes and other Rec programming will gradually restart, and we ask you stay tuned for more information. We plan for the limited and gradual reopening of all of our community centers after the start of Phase 2 -- except for Campbell Community Center, which is still undergoing renovations.
Pools currently remain closed during Phase 1 of Lane County’s reopening. We are working on how we might safely begin swimming lessons and lap swimming at Amazon Pool during Phase 2. Sheldon Pool will remain closed, as current guidelines do not allow indoor pools to operate during Phase 2. Echo Hollow Pool will remain closed until renovations are finished next winter.
We know this is a lot of information, and we care what you have to say. If you need further help or want to stay in the loop, don’t hesitate to call one of our open community centers or to follow us on social media.
We look forward to seeing some happy campers really soon!
