[ARCHIVED] Ridgeline Park System and Skinner Butte Summit Closed for 36 Hours Effective Immediately

Spencer Butte

Due to the nearby McKenzie Fire and windy conditions, the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division has closed both the entire Ridgeline Park System as well as Skinner Butte Summit in downtown Eugene through Thursday morning. Hendricks Park is considered part of the Ridgeline Park System so it will be closed as well.

While Parks remains focused on responding to downed trees and hazardous trees throughout the City of Eugene, there are likely tree failures in the Ridgeline and Skinner Butte Summit that also pose a safety risk.

Ridgeline Park System

Eugene’s Ridgeline Park system rings the southern edge of the city with a series of large, semi-connected parklands. Valued deeply by the community for recreation, open space, and habitat values, the Ridgeline system is accessed through a network of over 12 miles of trail starting at seven main trailheads.

Spencer Butte, the city’s highest point, crowns the Ridgeline at 2,058 feet in elevation. Other Ridgeline natural areas include Suzanne Arlie Park, Amazon Headwaters, Mt. Baldy, Blanton Ridge, Moon Mountain, South Eugene Meadows, and Wild Iris Ridge.
