The Street Crimes Unit continues to address immediate and acute community safety system issues and made some recent arrests:
On September 30, SCU determined a location for Sergio Rodrigues Galvez, age 31, who was wanted and reportedly armed with a handgun. SCU set up on the location and observed Galvez leaving in a vehicle. SCU contacted him after he tried to avoid officers by walking away and ditching the gun. SCU recovered a handgun with a loaded magazine and found Galvez was in possession of a few grams of meth. Charges include: Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Use Vehicle, Criminally Driving While Suspended/Revoked, Felon in Possession of a Weapon. Case 20-16334
Also on September 30, SCU stopped a vehicle and contacted Kevin Christ Gonzalez, age 26, who SCU had several prior contacts with involving guns, drugs, and elude by vehicle. Gonzalez was in possession of approximately 14 grams of heroin and 14 grams of meth. He was charged with felony possession of meth and heroin. Case 20-16351. 
On October 2, SCU located Joseph Paul Jared, age 30, who was wanted and had an Attempt to Locate for two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree from a detective. Another officer also had Probable Cause for Theft in the Second Degree for a porch theft. One of the burglaries involved ramming a business’s door in a stolen van. After an investigation, Jared was charged with two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Possession of Methamphetamine, and a warrant. SCU recovered property and returned it to the victim.
On October 6, SCU contacted Kevin Christ Gonzalez again for a Parole Violation warrant. Gonzalez was in possession of approximately nine ounces of meth and was charged with Delivery of Methamphetamine within 1,000 Feet of a School, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and a warrant. Case 20-16701.
Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit
The SCU has been focusing on prolific offenders, who are identified through intelligence-based policing, public tips and other sources. They have been proactively responding across the city to quality of life issues as they arise, using all available resources and partners such as community groups, neighborhood associations and city services. SCU is dedicated to targeting immediate and acute community safety system issues while working toward mission-critical enhancements that need to be addressed through a longer-term and broader community safety initiative. The unit currently consists of a lieutenant, two sergeants and eight officers.
