[ARCHIVED] K9 Team Tracks Astro Gas Burglary Suspect

Jacob Thomas Ayk

On October 18, at 12:24 a.m., police were dispatched to Astro Gas, 925 W. 6th Avenue, after a man was seen smashing a glass window of the business with a street sign. The suspect, later identified as Frank William Seaman, age 43, had broken into the cigarette shack and then ran eastbound on W. 6th Avenue.

Thanks to an alert witness, there was a good description for police. Multiple officers responded to the scene along with K9 Officer Jacob Thomas and K9 Ayk (pronounced ‘Ike’).
The team quickly went to work starting as Seaman’s last known location near Gray’s Garden, 737 W 6th Avenue,  and tracked Seaman to the 500 block of Jefferson Street, where the officer spotted him behind a parked car in a parking lot.

Seaman was generally not compliant with commands, but was ultimately taken into custody without incident. He was lodged at Lane County Jail for Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree. Case 20-17377
