[ARCHIVED] Winter Warming and Emergency Shelter Strategies

Rest stops allow up to 20 people to sleep overnight in tents or Conestoga huts

The City of Eugene is working in collaboration with Lane County and other partners on Winter Warming and Emergency Shelter Strategies.

Shelter Strategies

  • The City of Eugene is adding 5 new rest stops and additional microsites that are expected to operate for at least 12 to 18 months.
  • Lane County’s is working to identify hotels/motels and other non-congregate sheltering options across the county.
  • City of Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County support Egan Warming Centers through our Human Services Commission partnership.
  • Egan Warming Center sites are currently limited to 50 people (40 guests, 10 volunteers) per site due to public health guidance.

Ongoing Needs

Egan Warming Center still needs locations for use this winter that ideally provide space to host 20 to 40 guests (2,000 to 4,000 square feet of open space with heat and access to restrooms).

In addition, Egan also needs volunteers. Learn about three upcoming training opportunities beginning Thursday, Nov. 5. Participants can join via Zoom or in person.
