On December 16 at 3:24 p.m., a Eugene Police responded to the area of W. 11th Avenue and Grant Street for a reported kidnapping and sex abuse of a woman in her 20s. The suspect, Stewart Nicholas Forney, age 34, of Eugene, was reported to have taken the woman at knifepoint and dragged her to her vehicle and was forcing her to give him her keys. Several bystanders intervened to help the woman, who was screaming. The suspect released the victim and fled. Bystanders helped pinpoint the suspect’s location in some apartments on W. 12th. Additional units were dispatched to the scene including K9 units and the Crisis Negotiation Team as it was becoming very likely that the suspect was inside an apartment.
Police received consent to search from the owner of the apartment Forney had entered, and took Forney into custody. Forney was found to be a Fugitive from Justice out of New York. Police requested medics as Forney complained of a medical issue. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment and officers accompanied him. He was discharged to be transported to Lane County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree – Carjack, Burglary in the First Degree, Sex Abuse in the First Degree, Kidnap in the Second Degree, Menacing in the First Degree, Unlawful Use Weapon, and Fugitive from Justice.
