[ARCHIVED] Possibly Armed and Barricaded Man Arrested with Help of K9 and SWAT

OfcGriffith Kneeling 3 (1 of 1)

At 2:18 this morning, March 31, a man was reported to be disorderly at his home in the 2000 block of  Tarpon Street, where he lived with a woman who had a no contact order regarding him. Early on officers facilitated a safe exit for the woman and her child.

The suspect, later identified as Nolan Anthony Perkins, age 42, of Eugene, refused to leave and barricaded himself inside. Eugene Police called out the Crisis Negotiation Team at 8:34 a.m., as well as K9 and SWAT. EPD also obtained a warrant for his arrest. There was information that Perkins had access to firearms in the past and there were weapons kept in the home.

The suspect was moving to different parts of the house and there was clutter in various rooms that made the search difficult and dangerous. At one point, the suspect made vague statements about being in a room with his hands on a bomb. He had been given admonishments to come out and advisories about possible damage to the home. Gas was deployed into numerous rooms, and the search took some time and required the use of  a K9. The suspect was taken into custody with the help of a K9 Officer Owen Griffith and Cwyk (pronounced ‘quick’) unit as he was hiding in a closet under blankets at 1:04 p.m. He is being evaluated by medics for a K9 bite and exposure to the gas.

Nolan has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
