[ARCHIVED] Volunteer with the Library Re-Tagging Project

Due to changing check-out technology, the Library needs to remove the identification stickers (“tags”) from many books, DVDs, and CDs, and replace them with a new type of sticker.

With the Library handling three million check-outs for 100,000 cardholders each year, this update is a high priority project, making it possible for the Library to continue to provide user-friendly, cost-effective lending for everyone in the community. The Re-Tagging Project is a great
opportunity for short-term volunteers to make a big difference!

Re-Tagging volunteers must have these skills: attention to detail while performing a repetitive task; ability to do crafts-type tasks well and quickly; ability to switch visual focus from items on desk to reading a computer screen; basic computer use (pointing and clicking); ability to lift and move books from shelves to a cart and back; ability to push a rolling cart filled with books; comfortable using an elevator (carts can’t go up and down the stairs). Minimum age is 14. (Twelve and 13 year olds will be considered if volunteering with a parent.)

Each volunteer commits to a two-hour shift at the same time each week, for a one-month commitment. (For example: four Tuesdays in a row from 10:00 a.m. to noon.) Shifts can be scheduled any day of the week, including weekends, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. All shifts take place at the Downtown Library.

If the Re-Tagging Project sounds like a match for your skills, interests, and schedule, please let us know. E-mail LibraryVolunteerCoordinator@ci.eugene.or.us or call 541-682-6617.

Thank you!
