On June 10 at around 6:45 p.m., police responded to Fred Meyers, 3333 W. 11th Avenue, for a report of a possible Arson. Eugene Springfield Fire Marshal’s Office was already on scene.
A large, metal commercial dumpster on the side of the building appeared to have been set on fire.
An investigation developed a lead on a suspect, Bobby Lee Watson, age 32, of Eugene. Watson had been inside the store earlier and had an argument with customer service staff. He is reported to have gone outside and kicked an electrical wire conduit box and burned the bike cage lock, and then set the dumpster on fire. He came back to the store on June 12, at about 1:45 p.m., and security recognized him and called police. He was arrested on June 12 at 2:14 p.m.
He was lodged at Lane County Jail for case 21-08756 on Arson in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and a warrant.
