[ARCHIVED] Working Towards Zero Traffic Deaths

Vision Zero Report

The City’s 2019 through 2020 Vision Zero Progress Report is now available online. It reports on progress towards the City’s Vision Zero goal of reaching zero traffic deaths and life changing injuries by 2035. The report provides information on recent crash trends, as well as updates on City efforts to improve transportation safety across multiple departments, including work on: street design projects, public education and enforcement around dangerous behaviors (such as speeding), DUII mitigation and community engagement.

While the report includes a range of information, one finding rises above the rest: we still have more work to do on our journey towards zero traffic deaths. During this time period, our community lost lives in nine fatal traffic crashes, and saw severe injuries result from an additional 17 crashes. Of these incidents, half impacted people walking and biking in Eugene. These recent crash trends are an important reminder that our community’s continued commitment to improving transportation safety is critically important.
