PREVIOUS INFORMATION

Police responding to barricaded, possibly armed man in the 1100 block of Jefferson

Eugene Police responded to report of a menacing with a firearm call at 9:15 a.m. today, July 15. They attempted to locate and contact an involved man, who barricaded himself in an apartment in the 1100 block of Jefferson and did not respond to attempts to reach him by phone.

He has continued to not respond. Eugene Police called Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT to provide enhanced safety contacting the person, who potentially has access to firearms. The armored vehicle was used to facilitate the safe exit of some apartment residents, including children, so they could leave the area. At about 2:27 p.m., Central Lane 911 began sending out a CENS (Community Emergency Notification System) message for area residents to shelter in place (about a one-block radius) as hails to the barricaded man began. The CENS message provides people in the immediate vicinity what is occurring and provides safety instructions.

Note: Sometimes people not in the direct area report getting the alert messages. This may be because they received it via Wireless Emergency Alert system, which uses cell towers.
