On July 19, a Eugene Police patrol officer took a report of a Burglary at a home under renovations in the 2100 block of Lakeview Drive. It was reported that other construction sites in the area had also been subject to recent burglaries, and during her investigation the officer identified a potential suspect, Matthew Henry Clark, age 38, of Veneta.
Detectives from Eugene Police Property Crimes Unit and Financial Crimes Unit followed up on the case the next day, July 22, along with some help from Lane County Parole and Probation. They began looking for Clark in the Veneta area and one of the detectives spotted Clark in his vehicle and subsequently detectives stopped Clark at his residence.
Eugene Police Crime Analysis discovered a similar county burglary from overnight and notified detectives.
After further investigation, the detectives found Probable Cause charges for two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Theft in the First Degree, six counts each of ID Theft and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and one count of Unauthorized Entry Motor Vehicle. Additional charges are pending.
Several thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen property was recovered and returned to the owners.
