SCU, Patrol, K9, and 911 unit coordination leads to arrest of man on warrants
On July 28 at 7:15 p.m., Eugene Police Patrol was dispatched to a reported dispute between two vehicles’ drivers in the area of Cone Avenue and Parsons Avenue. EPD’s Street Crimes Unit was close by and one of the SCU officers located one of the involved vehicles, a VW GTI, which was still on Parsons Avenue, and it was occupied by a suspect they had been looking for throughout the day: James Charles Marineau, age 28, of Eugene. Marineau had been sentenced to an initial 30-month prison sentence on July 23, 2021, and had not shown up to court. He had three warrants.
Marineau fled in the Jetta and the officer found it unoccupied and discovered that Marineau had fled on foot. Patrol, SCU, and the EPD K9, which were training in Cottage Grove, all responded to the call. Even though Marineau had a 30-minute head start on the K9 team, K9 Officer Griffith and Cwyk tracked and caught up with Marineau about a mile and a half northwest of the initial incident in a field west of N. Terry Street. Marineau was hiding in the brush and was cooperative when contacted. Marineau was taken into custody on three warrants.
This case was distinguished by a high level of teamwork between Patrol, SCU, K9 and 911. Case 21-11534
