On August 8 at 1:25 a.m. officers were called to respond to a large brawl at a downtown bar, 77 W. Broadway. The original calls advised there were up to 50 people involved, and it was later determined to be closer to 30 inside.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and detained a man, Elijah Muhammad Jackson, age 23, of Springfield. At this point, about 100 people were coming outside of the Drake and surrounding police as the primary officer conducted the investigation. The scene was potentially unsafe due to the amount of people, intoxication, and the crowd activity.
An investigation found that Jackson had come up to the victim and confronted him and then it escalated with verbal confrontation. There were a group of people with each of the involved parties. At some point, security escorted them and several other subjects outside. It was reported Jackson threw a punch, which ended up with a physical dispute breaking out between several people. A woman, age 42, was reported to have been punched by Jackson.
Officers were able to sort through the investigation, navigate the potentially hazardous crowd situation, and resolve the scene safely.
During an investigation, the officer found probable cause existed for Physical Harassment and Disorderly Conduct by Jackson. Jackson was cooperative with the investigation and was lodged at Lane County Jail without incident. Case 21-12176
