[ARCHIVED] (UPDATED) 22-year-old Woman Drowns in Willamette River

Victim: Amina Rose Sandefer, age 22, of Eugene

On August 11 at 5:53 p.m., Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire EMS were called to assist in finding a 22-year-old Eugene woman who had gotten swept away in a current near Frohnmayer Bike Bridge while wading at the river.

 

People were in boats and in the water searching for the woman. She was located by ESF approximately 150 yards downstream. She was unresponsive and transported to a local hospital, where she was declared deceased. The EPD investigation found no evidence of foul play or intoxication.  

 

EPD is currently withholding her identity to give family time to notify their circle of family and friends of their loss.
