On August 11, 2021, police received information of a 35-year-old developmentally disabled man who was left by the person he was with in the area of West 4th Avenue and Blair Boulevard without identification or resources. A woman, who was camping in the area, became aware of the situation, and allowed the man to use her phone to contact his parents. The parents contacted Eugene Police, and he was located by Patrol.
After locating the man, a patrol supervisor worked with Eugene Mission, and they were able to provide temporary shelter and food, while an airport officer worked with the parents and TSA to obtain adequate identification, after the parents purchased a plane ticket for the man to return home.
Following an overnight stay at the Eugene Mission, the man was transported to the airport by Patrol and escorted through TSA and onto the plane by an airport officer. He eventually made it back home safely and was reunited with his parents.
We want to thank the community and involved agencies for their care and support in assisting Eugene Police and this family during this unfortunate situation.
