The bikes reported stolen from CoMotion Cycles around 3:33 a.m. on July 28 have been recovered and a suspect, Andres Varillas, age 32, was charged in the case.

On July 29, Eugene Police Department Patrol Officers and Property Crimes Detectives worked together in order to locate Varillas, who had multiple outstanding warrants and attempt to locates related to local burglaries. During the course of the investigation into the Co-Motion burglary, an officer obtained information regarding Varillas’ possible involvement and that he had been camping in and frequenting an area near Beltline and Roosevelt Blvd. This information was shared with a night watch patrol team whose sergeant vowed to locate Varillas that evening. Before midnight, the sergeant was patrolling the area of S. Danebo and W. 11th Avenue and spotted Varillas, who quickly fled into a field and slipped away. The sergeant called in K9 Sergeant Rob Griesel and K9 Kuiil (pronounced ‘quill) who assisted in locating and taking Varillas into custody. One of the stolen Co-Motion bicycles was located abandoned around the same time, after a second male was observed riding it. The investigation into the burglary case continued and detectives recovered the second stolen Co-Motion bicycle the following day, July 30.

On August 6th, Varillas, who was still in custody at the Lane County Jail, was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree related to the Co-Motion Cycles case.
