At 1:15 p.m. on August 23, EPD received report of a suspicious object left on a seat at E. 11th/Kincaid LTD. The EPD Drone Team came out to assist, as well as Metro Explosives Disposal Unit. Community Services Officers helped provide traffic direction, as the area was blocked off and the bus left empty until the situation could be resolved. MEDU completed the investigation at 2:48 p.m. The object was found to not be an explosive device. Nevertheless, Eugene Police appreciates the call that was made. Everyone plays a role in keeping communities safe.
EPD is in alignment with the “If You See Something, Say Something®” campaign launched by Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice's Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative, which serves as an example of how residents working together with law enforcement can make a difference to protect their communities.
Individuals are encouraged to be watchful and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement or by calling 9-1-1. Suspicious activity might be a vehicle parked in an odd location, an unattended backpack, or unusual attention to facilities or buildings beyond a casual or professional interest. Today’s object left unattended on the bus was a good example of an incident to report. If You Find a Suspicious item don not touch it, tamper with it or move the package, bag or item. Get some distance and call 911.
