[ARCHIVED] Sergeant’s Quick Work Leads to Fast Return of Stolen Bike to Owner

Handcuffs

At 2:54 p.m., August 23, a Eugene Police sergeant was flagged down at Safeway, 145 E. 18th Avenue, after a 21-year-old man advised an unknown person had just ridden off with his bike while he was inside the store. He had just purchased it about six months ago at Life Cycle.

The sergeant quickly went to the bicycle store, which was nearby, and got information on the bike, including serial number, and a photo of the same model and color bike. He made sure all working patrol officers got the image and information. Just about an hour later, at 4:01 p.m., another officer spotted a man, late identified a Trey Michael Selbe, age 24,  riding the bicycle at W. 8th and Madison. Selbe was charged with Theft in the Second Degree and the bicycle was recovered for return to its owner.
