At 12:43 p.m. on September 7, the driver of a Subaru Forester, later identified as Thomas Allen Spinchfield, age 72, of Springfield, hit an abandoned Honda CRV that had been left on the shoulder of I-105 near Delta and then rolled. There was a secondary crash of a Toyota Truck driven by a 36-year-old Eugene man, which did not hit any other vehicles.
Other drivers nearby and an EPD sergeant in plain clothes who had happened by the crashes, assisted with the immediate incidents. Subsequently Eugene Police, Eugene Springfield Fire EMS, and ODOT responded and both I-105 westbound and the Delta highway on-ramp were affected.
Spinchfield was transported by medics to a local hospital. An investigation determined Spinchfield was Driving Under the Influence and he was cited in lieu of custody. Case 21-13953
