In early October, Eugene Police Property Crimes Unit became aware of a series of crimes occurring in the downtown area, with multiple victims and began working the case. On October 15, PCU detectives wrote and applied for a search warrant of a tent located in the Washington/Jefferson Park. The search warrant was granted by a judge and served on October 15.
The search warrant service was assisted by EPD Street Crimes Unit, who were instrumental in locating a suspect, Skyler Alan Carbone, age 28, of Springfield, who ran from SCU officers but was ultimately taken into custody without incident.
Carbone was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant and PCU detectives continued to investigate the case. During the search warrant service, detectives located numerous stolen items linked to recent burglaries, stolen vehicles, and identity thefts in the downtown area in the tent. Ultimately after reviewing evidence, Carbone was charged with Unauthorized Use Vehicle and Burglary in the First Degree. Other charges may be pending.
