[ARCHIVED] Keep Bike Lanes Clear of Leafs

Keep bike lane clear

Did you know? Eugene's leaf program dates back to the 1960s. Initially a basic flood-control service, the leaf program has evolved over the years to include significant benefits in the areas of water quality, natural resource recycling and community service. The City runs an annual awareness campaign which includes press releases, radio ads, social media, and postcards sent to properties abutting streets with bike lanes.

One of the key messages is: Keep leaves out of the bike lanes. Eugene Code prohibits the obstruction of bike or travel lanes with leaves or other debris. Property owners are liable for any injuries or damage that result from placing materials in the street.

An easy way to dispose of leaves: Place them in yard debris containers. For more information about yard debris containers, contact your local hauler Lane Apex Disposal ServiceRoyal Refuse, or Sanipac. You can also place leaves in the street as long as they don't obstruct the bike lane or traffic. More disposal tips here.

If you see leaves in the bike lane: Contact Public Works Maintenance online at eugene-or.gov/pwservice or call 541-682-4800. You can also use the iBikeEug web-based app to quickly report bike lane hazards and issues.
