[ARCHIVED] Two EPD specialized units investigating possible Arson at church

On November 10 at 7:15 p.m. Eugene Police officers were dispatched to St. Mark Church, 1167 Sam Reynolds Street, to assist Eugene Springfield Fire with a small fire that was set on the porch of the church.

 

ESF extinguished the fire and there was minimal damage to the property, contained to several boards on the porch.  There is currently no suspect information. Eugene Police has opened an investigation, deploying two specialized units: 

  • Eugene Police Arson detectives are currently investigating the origins and if the fire was intentionally set. 
  • A predominantly black membership attends the church, and additional detectives from the Special Investigations Unit have been assigned to investigate any possible bias crimes associated with the fire.
