On November 18, police contacted James Paul Cable, age 38, of Eugene, at his residence and took him into custody regarding a homicide investigation at the location. During the investigation,  Cable struck a detective, and was later arrested on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Assault on a Public Safety Officer. The 35-year-old male victim is known to Cable.

 

The violent crimes unit is continuing to investigate the incident and a crash that occurred, possibly connected to the incident, in the area of East 29th Avenue and Amazon Parkway. Police were called to the crash around 12:30 a.m. The involved vehicle, a 2022 silver four-door Chevrolet Silverado truck with Florida license plate, had crashed in the creek bed, and was found to be associated with Cable.
