[ARCHIVED] Woman arrested after vehicle crash, shots fired

Handcuffs

At around 3:49 a.m. a Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputy came across a two-vehicle crash that had just occurred at W. 7th Avenue and Charnelton Street. As he approached one of the vehicles, a GMC Yukon, that had crashed into a pole, he saw the driver holding a gun to her own head. The deputy backed off, heard a gunshot and called for other units from Eugene Police to assist. A second shot went off as the first EPD cover units began to arrive.

Officers began setting up the area to get the driver out while maintaining safety. They blocked traffic on W. 7th Avenue and Charnelton Street and ensured the other two involved motorists were evacuated. A local coffee stand was temporarily closed. Eugene Springfield Fire also staged nearby. The woman, later identified as Alyvia Marie Hudson, age 23, was heard yelling from the vehicle and did not appear to have been injured by the gun fire.

An LCSO sergeant started hails from his patrol vehicle and Hudson exited the vehicle a short time later at 4:07 a.m.. She was taken into custody without incident. During an investigation, it was found that Hudson had gone through a red light at W. 7th Avenue, causing the crash and then tried to shoot herself. One of the rounds had been fired out the SUV’s window in the direction of surrounding buildings and passing traffic, and a second round through the floor of her vehicle. Officers recovered the involved handgun from the ground outside Hudson’s vehicle.

The other involved vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was driven by a Eugene woman, age 33.

Hudson was transported to Lane County Jail on charges of Reckless Endangering, Unlawful Use Weapon, and Reckless Driving.
