[ARCHIVED] South Bank Path Opens

South Bank Path

The Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path — from the Frohnmayer Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge to the Hilyard Street entrance — is open and ready to walk, run, bike and roll!

The South Bank Path Project realigned and rebuilt approximately 3,000 feet of the South Bank Path this summer. The newly smooth and illuminated section of river path has options for everyone. Head over to the river to enjoy:

  • A new twelve-foot-wide path concrete surface in straighter alignment
  • Energy efficient overhead lighting along the new concrete path (a section of lights is awaiting activation by EWEB)
  • A new gravel walking and running trail — converted from portions of the old path

The river path remains closed — from the DeFazio Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge to the Hilyard Street entrance — for the construction of the Downtown Riverfront Park which is expected to open in early 2022. Community members using the river path should plan to use the North Bank Path for continuous travel.

The popular Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path offers 12 miles of riverfront travel, connecting Eugene to Springfield and providing recreation and transportation options for community members of all ages and abilities.
