[ARCHIVED] Help Public Works prepare for potential winter weather

Winter weather driving tips

Eugene Public Works is closely monitoring potential winter weather that could bring freezing temperatures and snow to the valley floor and south hills. Staff have converted trucks to help battle snow or ice and are on standby if road conditions deteriorate.

Public Works is asking people to review the designated snow emergency routes before potential winter weather. If a storm appears likely, please don’t leave your vehicle parked on an emergency route.

When the City declares an ice/snow emergency, people must remove all vehicles immediately from designated snow emergency routes. The city’s ice/snow ordinance prohibits parking along streets designated snow emergency routes while a snow/ice emergency is in effect. This ensures Public Works crews can safely remove snow and other hazards and that emergency vehicles, buses, and other essential traffic can move safely around town.

When temperatures are near or below freezing, staff will pretreat elevated surfaces and known trouble spots with deicer. In the event there is a significant amount of snow and ice, public works will execute its Ice/Snow Plan. The plan is designed to keep transportation systems as operational and as safe as possible during ice/snowstorms.
