[ARCHIVED] EPD officers identify and arrest stabbing suspect

Handcuffs

At 5:49 a.m. on January 1, a 49-year-old man had a dispute over property with another man he knew by his first name only.  During the interaction near the suspect’s vehicle, in the 2800 block of Willamette, the suspect stabbed the victim with a long, bladed weapon. The victim was able to flee on his bicycle and call 911 for help. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At the time the suspect was not located, but a Eugene Police officer put out notice to other officers to be on the lookout for him and provided a description. One of the officers recognized the description of a man he knew as Jason Wayne Beauchamp, age 49, who had been living near Amazon Park. He went with another officer to find Beauchamp, even though the night’s service call load was starting to take off. They spotted Beauchamp’s vehicle parked in the 3200 block of Hilyard Street and took him into custody without incident.

Beauchamp was lodged at Lane County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use Weapon.
