[ARCHIVED] Train-Pedestrian Crash at Pearl and High

Officer in Traffic Safety Vest

At 2:20 a.m. on January 30, Eugene Police officers responded to a pedestrian-train crash on the railroad tracks between Pearl Street and High Street. An adult male was seen alive in the area, and then shortly after was found deceased on the tracks. Eugene Police conducted a death investigation and there did not appear to be any signs of a crime. The Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office took jurisdiction of the body. The man’s name is being withheld pending family notification.

The tracks are in an area used by Union Pacific. The train conductor had been unaware of the incident until notified by their dispatch after they pulled into their railroad yard. They were cooperative. The front of the train was already well past the intersection when this occurred.
