[ARCHIVED] Teamwork leads to location and arrest of reckless, eluding driver

Handcuffs

At 2:29 p.m. on February 15, a Eugene Police Patrol officer saw a sedan without license plates driving south on River Road. The officer initiated a stop it as the vehicle fled, driving recklessly near River Road and Arbor. The suspect was not stopping and the officer aired information while disengaging. Other EPD units began to come to the area, including a Traffic Safety Unit officer, who spotted the car and described its last seen location.

An astute detective located the car near a residence as officers moved into position to take the suspect into custody. An EPD Drone Team sergeant confirmed the car was unoccupied with a flyover, just as two possible suspects from the vehicle were spotted by the TSU officer. Meanwhile, K9 Officer Travis Palki and Jax swooped into the scene. The Drone Team and sounds of the K9 team activity were having an impact on the suspect, and the Drone Team sergeant spotted the suspect male driver hopping fences. A resident reported a person in her yard, and the suspect, Bryan Anthony Hampton, age 40, of Eugene, was taken into custody without incident by two TSU officers. He was lodged at Lane County Jail on charges of Elude on Foot, Elude Vehicle, and Reckless Driving. A female passenger was not charged.
