[ARCHIVED] Man arrested after two separate business break-ins

Lightbar

On February 28 at approximately 4:07 a.m., Eugene Police officers were called to Dari Mart, 111 North Monroe Street, for a reported burglary. Arriving officers spotted a man inside the store and the front glass door broken. The Eugene man, age 54, appeared disoriented and was eating an item. Two officers gave commands to the man to exit the store. He was very cooperative and taken into custody and identified as Timothy Allan Hills. Hills was bleeding due to glass shards from the door. Based on the man’s behavior and cuts, an officer transported him to a local hospital where he was left for treatment along with a citation in lieu of custody for Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. Case 22-03388

A few hours later, at 6:13 a.m., Eugene Police was called again for similar circumstances at Hutch's Bicycles, 960 Charnelton Street. The same man, Timothy Allan Hills, was again found inside Hutch’s, with the front door broken. He was pushing one of the store’s bicycles from the showroom floor toward the front door. This time, Hills was agitated and uncooperative and at one point flung a fire extinguisher toward officers. An officer spoke with him calmly through the door for some time and eventually the Hills put the bike down and came out. He crawled back out through the hole he'd smashed in the glass and between two steel mesh security panels fastened to the door. He was speaking incoherently and was transported to Lane County Jail for Burglary in the Second Degree. Case 22-03390
