At the Monday, March 14 City Council meeting, Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis issued a proclamation that March 31 will be acknowledged as Transgender Day of Visibility in Eugene. President Joe Biden signed a presidential declaration proclaiming March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in the United States in 2021.
March 31 is a day to honor and celebrate the achievements and resiliency of transgender and gender diverse people and acknowledge their determination to live openly and authentically. Mayor Vinis’ proclamation encourages “all people to work together in the coming year to achieve greater progress in respecting, protecting and welcoming transgender people in our community.”
The City Council begins is spring break next week, making this Monday’s meeting the closest meeting to March 31 that was available for her to make the proclamation.
